laksa is a popular spicy noodle soup from Peranakan culture (Baba & Nyonya). No matter you are a chinese, malay or indian, most of us love it. And me too. In M'sia, there are various types of laksa. For instances, Johor Laksa, Kelantan Laksa, Penang Laksa, Sarawak Laksa, and so on. All of them have their special flavor respectively. However, are we gonna have those laksa by travelling to different states? Do not be silly. There is a local laksa specialist restaurant which sells all these types of laksa. It is known as Laksa Shack. Plethora of outlets can be found across this peninsular.
last month, Se Xun and I went to one of the outlets which is located in the basement of City Square. Se Xun and I had made our orders respectively after had having a deep thought.
Se Xun had ordered Sarawak Laksa. The soup is black in color. Pretty unique but kinda oily as we may seen the oil is all over the surface of soup. The Sarawak Laksa is served in curry-based concoction mixed with spices and herbs. Perhaps the dish needs a large amount of spices in cooking, the Sarawak Laksa is fairly fragrant. But... it was pretty salty. Well, the Sarawak Laksa is garnished with prawns, chicken meat, slices of omelette, some veggie and sambal.
same as the Sarawak Laksa, the Malacca Nyonya Laksa which was ordered by me, was salty too. Would it be the spices they added in made the soup tasted that salty? Or just 'cuz of they put in too much of MSG or salt? Overall, I am not gonna pay a single compliment to this Malacca Nyonya Laksa. The taste was kinda curry-mee-alike. And if not mistaken... if the taste buds did not playing a fool with me, I think the cook had added in lemon grass or also known as citronella, in order to enhance the flavor. But too much of it. Nothing special 'bout this Malacca Nyonya Laksa. Hmmm... I should try the Kelantan Laksa next time.
