I think the eating habit is not gonna change wherever I will be. Regardless of the venue, the time, the price, the people... to me, eating is really an important daily activity as a matter of routine. I do mind to spend the hard-earned money on clothes, but never on delicacies.
there is a moral value behind today's topic, i.e. When You're Having a Large Portion of Meal and Unable to Finish It... Think of the South-Africa Children... and Take Your Time to Finish It.
on the 23rd December evening, thanks the cousin, Joo Fei, for bringing us to The Café Cartel to have the remarkably dinner.
according to Yee Jin, The Café Cartel is a western cafe-chain based in S'pore. They serves American cuisine which is really generous portion in served. It is kind of similar with the TGI Fridays. Since The Café Cartel operates many of its branches across the S'pore island, so Joo Fei suggested to go to The Plaza Singapura outlet. It is the nearest outlet from Orchard Road.
due to the limited dinner budget and the hiked currency rate, Joo Fei suggested to have the porky meal sets. Buy one set of Hawaiian Pork Chop and get another set of St. Louis Pork Ribs at a cheaper price. Meanwhile, you will also get a pack of potato chips with every Hawaiian Pork Chop order. Thus, we had ordered 2 sets of Hawaiian Pork Chops and 2 sets of St. Louis Pork Ribs and got ourselves 2 packs of free potato chips ++".
this is the Hawaiian Pork Chops @ S$14.60. It serves with fries and coleslaw. Well, I am not gonna comment 'bout the fries since I did not eat it. Anyhow... take a look at the sliced pineapple. It seemed as if it has had soaked in the honey. So sweet. Oh yeah... do not forget the pork chops. The meat was tender and juicy. However, the pork was totally tasteless no matter it is Hawaiian Pork Chops or St. Louis Pork Ribs. They relies on their sauces. I believe it is because of S'pore imports frozen porks. Frozen pork is more easier to lose its taste than fresh pork. So it tasted bland. Add in or add more the black pepper to marinate or season it, I think it does help in order to enhance the flavor. After all, it is my own opinion... as a M'sian.
this is St. Louis Pork Ribs @ S$15.20. Well, it is the original price. During the promotion period, we can feed ourselves with the dish at S$11.80. The main attractions of this dish are the appearance and its large portion. The pork ribs are simply Chinese Char-Siew alike. Don't ya believe? Well, just take a glance at my favorite gourmet's bloggie, then you know what I meant. In spite of that, it is not as oily as Char-Siew we are usually eaten. Hmmm... compared with the Hawaiian Pork Chops, the pork ribs were slightly in rough texture. After eating the pork ribs, you will definitely feel that pork chop is more easier for biting and chewing. Oh yeah, a pig has 14 ribs or 7 pairs of ribs. I forgot to count how many ribs that Yee Jin and I had eaten. By solely looking at the size, I think it could be half of a pig's ribcage.
perhaps I had consumed too much of meat that evening, I felt that the coleslaw was remarkably appetizing and refreshing. It is too bad that coleslaw was only served in a small portion if compared with the meat. Not to forget, the free flow home-made breads and sky juices are provided as well. Make sure your stomach is totally filled up with the food before you leave the cafe, I think that is their aim ++".
hmmm... to me, the dinner was good and worthy. Try not to convert the currency, it is actually considered as a reasonable price for such a large portion of meal. However if you insist to convert the price into RM, just treat it as you have dined at TGI Fridays. And you will feel better...
