A Day At S'pore East Coast Park

29th June 2008
I had to work on the morning. It was Hari Terbuka, i.e. a day the parents have to come to school and meet the teachers, in order to get the report cards. It was started at around 8am. Supposed to have a break at around 10am, but the situation was not allowed me to do so. The parents were so desperated to take the report cards. And I was like a talking machine, kept talking from 8am till the very last parents had left. It was at around 1pm, and I did not have a single opportunity to drink within the 5 hours.

after the Hari Terbuka, I was rushed back to home and cleaned up myself for the S'pore trip. When all the things were done, it was at around 3pm. Ming Shing and I planned to go to Night Safari, S'pore River Cruise, and Chinatown Heritage Centre. But in the end, we went to the S'pore largest recreational park - East Coast Park.

The East Coast Park (Chinese: 东海岸公园; Malay: Taman Pantai Timur) is a beach park located on the southeastern coast of Singapore. It was opened in the 1970s, when the government completed reclaiming land off the coast at Katong which extends from Changi to Tanjong Rhu.

The 1.85 square kilometre East Coast Park is the largest park in Singapore, and is built entirely on reclaimed land with a man-made beach, where swimming is possible. The beach is protected by breakwaters, with no other natural features. The park is easily accessible by East Coast Park Service Road with numerous exits along the East Coast Parkway. The place has ample parking space with many carparks near the park. The park is also accessible via public transport in the form of bus services, available on East Coast Park Service Road. Underpasses link the park to the nearby Marine Parade housing estate.

The park is a popular place for families and friends to relax and enjoy themselves. The park has barbecue pits, entertainment facilities, chalets, food and beverage, and amenities for sports activities. A cycling and inline skating track runs along the perimeter of the park, which measures at least 20 km long.

it took 40 minutes to reach the Bedok MRT Station from Kranji MRT Station. Ming Shing and I met her university-mate-cum-tour-guide-of-beach-trip, Miaw, at there. Then we took the cab to our final destination.

the beach is huge and long. We were unable to walk till the another end. Anyway, there are plenty of recreational activities and angmoh as well ++". And due to the reason of the venue of the beach is that near to the S'pore Changi Airport, so people may see the moment of aeroplanes boarding and landing. That is awesome indeed.

many photos were taken on that day. When the night started to fall, we went to have our dinner. We were simply famished and craved for the food. Hunger is the best sauce. As the result, no food photo was taken.

after the dinner, three of us were strolling along the seashore. How romanticism it was, to walk along the beach with a pair of bare feet and the soothing sea breeze. The sand I stood on made me feel so gentle and tiny. Every single step was refreshing. We even sat on the beach and soaked ourselves in the sea air. How I wish my life could be like that, calm and peaceful.

as Ming Shing and I had to work on the next day, we decided to go back home. However, it was weekend and we could not get a single cab to the MRT station. So we walked. It was a long journey to me as my shoes were hurting me. And not to forget, we were in S'pore, it was still considered safe to walk along the streets after 10pm. Finally we reached Bedok MRT Station and took an MRT to Bugis, in order to catch the last bus Causeway Link to return back to JB.

Penny of Thoughts
years ago, a senior told me that it is good to be a student. Students have much of time to enjoy their life. They can do whatever they want to do... I have ended my student life 3 years ago. Although I am current a part-time student, but it does feel different. It made me feel envious when looked at friends' university life photos. And look at I myself, the never ending work has occupied most of my time. Sometimes, I did questioned myself, what am I actually pursuing now? Hmmm... life still goes on. Be a sunflower which is always smile at the sun instead of the morning glory which has to rely on the fence to survive. I will find my dream in one day later, just as how the sunflower smiles at the shiny sun.
